Can the depo shot make your period cramps worse?

I got depo in mid December, and I just got my period about two days ago, and my cramps are crazy. Like, they actually woke me up around 3:30am and I still have not been able to go to bed since because of them. My cramps have only woken me up one time before (before the shot), but these just seem ridiculous.
