How to make varsity lettermen jacket patches?...finishes?...chenill… help?

I want to design and make my own varsity lettering type patches for a jacket I am making... my biggest problem so far is finding the type of chenille used for these patches and figuring out the process used to sew it to the felt layers?....any ideas...or suggestions?....please help
