What is chenille fabric like? Is it soft material? I'm curious.?

I am thinking about purchasing a spiderman chenille rug for my 4 yr old sons room,would this be a good idea,i'm not familiar with this type fabric.I don't want a rug with a rough feel to it,I would like for it to be soft.
