Terrible pain, is it arthritis?

I have really bad pain right above my knees and on the side of my knees, the area doesnt have any discoloration but it is very warm. I find it very difficult to stand up, it is very painful. But i have no pain when standing upright. Sometimes a huge aching feeling comes when im sitting down or lying in bed and its very excruciating. I want to go to the hospital but my dad doesnt want to take me, he tells me "to just exercise" Please tell me what you think it might be, and dont tell me to go to the doctor as an answer.
